How to Prepare for a Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel

July 14, 2026 CJ Woodwork LLC

A kitchen or bathroom remodel is one of the biggest upgrades you can make to a home, and a little preparation makes the whole project go faster and smoother for everyone.

Clear the room first. Empty cabinets and drawers, and take anything fragile out of the work area and the rooms next to it. Remodeling involves demolition, tapping and vibration, and dust travels.

Decide your choices early. Cabinet style and finish, hardware, and the trim that goes with them should all be settled before work starts, so nothing waits on a decision halfway through.

Plan for daily life. A kitchen remodel means no kitchen for a while. Set up a small temporary space with a microwave, a kettle and paper plates, and plan for a bathroom you can use elsewhere in the house.

Think about access and noise. Plan for kids and pets to be out of the work area, and make sure there is a clear path from the driveway to the room being done.

Finally, walk through the plan. Confirm the layout, where the cabinets and trim will go, and what happens to the rooms around the project.
